How the migration runs, step by step

Free Squarespace audit (24 hours)
We check your Squarespace version (7.0 or 7.1), count pages, blog posts and products, and look at Member Areas and custom code. The Squarespace export covers only part of a site (one blog, layout and gallery pages, text and image blocks), so the audit plans how the rest is copied. You get a fixed quote within 24 hours.

WordPress and theme setup (Day 1)
We install WordPress on your chosen host, then pick a theme and style it to match your Squarespace design. We add Yoast or Rank Math, a forms plugin, a page builder and anything your features need (WooCommerce, MemberPress).

XML export and import (Day 1-2)
Your Squarespace export file is imported with the WordPress Importer plugin, which brings over blog posts, pages and image references. A cleanup pass then fixes broken HTML and image links and checks categories and tags.

Layout rebuild (Day 2-4)
Squarespace layouts are rebuilt in your chosen builder (Elementor, Spectra or Gutenberg block patterns), and mobile is checked separately. Squarespace doesn't export custom CSS, so we copy the CSS that still applies into the WordPress theme and rework anything tied to the Squarespace grid.

Store and members (Day 4-5, when your plan includes them)
On Professional, products, orders and customer profiles are exported from Squarespace as CSV files and imported into WooCommerce. On Enterprise, Member Areas content also moves to MemberPress or Restrict Content Pro with the same access levels.

Redirects and SEO (Day 4-5)
Every Squarespace URL is mapped to its WordPress equivalent with a 301 redirect, and SEO descriptions go into Yoast or Rank Math. The sitemap is regenerated and ready for Search Console.

Domain cutover (Day 5, or Day 7 on Professional)
We point your domain at the WordPress host and submit the new sitemap in Search Console. If you also want the domain moved off Squarespace, we handle the transfer, which Squarespace says can take up to 15 days. Moving the domain doesn't cancel your Squarespace plan, so you cancel that yourself once the new site is live.
Leaving a different builder? We also move Wix sites, which have no blog export and Webflow sites with CMS collections to WordPress. Older CMS sites follow the Drupal process or the Joomla process. Anything else, including a straight host change, is covered by our general migration service.

Why migrate from Squarespace to WordPress?+
Mostly for control. On WordPress you can add any plugin, edit the theme code, and set schema, canonical tags and internal links in detail with Yoast or Rank Math. You also pick your own host and can move again later without rebuilding. If Squarespace already does everything you need, staying put is a fair choice.
Will my Squarespace design transfer to WordPress?+
We rebuild your Squarespace layouts in WordPress with your chosen page builder and match the desktop design closely. Mobile is checked and tuned separately. If you want a new design as part of the move, that's our Website Redesign service.
Does Squarespace have a clean export?+
Partly. Squarespace exports an XML file in WordPress format that covers one blog (with its posts and comments), layout pages, gallery pages, and text and image blocks. It leaves out store pages, product blocks, other page types, extra blogs, audio and video blocks, custom CSS and style settings. Products, orders and customer profiles export separately as CSV files. Anything the exports miss, we copy from the live site.
Will my Squarespace SEO transfer?+
Yes. Page titles, SEO descriptions and slugs move across, and your SEO descriptions become Yoast or Rank Math meta descriptions. Every URL whose pattern changes gets a 301 redirect. Nobody can guarantee rankings after a migration, but a complete redirect map and matching content remove the avoidable causes of loss.
Can I keep my Squarespace domain?+
Yes. You can leave it registered with Squarespace and point its DNS at your WordPress host, which is the quickest route. To move the registration as well, you request a transfer code in the Squarespace domains panel; Squarespace says the transfer can take up to 15 days. A newly bought or recently transferred-in domain may be locked for 60 days, and you can point it at the new site while you wait.
What about Squarespace Commerce products?+
Squarespace exports up to 10,000 physical and service products to CSV. Download products, featured images, variant images and image alt text aren't in that file, so we move those separately. Orders and customer profiles have their own CSV exports, and all of it goes into WooCommerce. Store migrations are on the Professional plan ($299).
Will my Member Areas data come across?+
Member content and access levels move to a WordPress membership plugin: MemberPress, Restrict Content Pro or Paid Memberships Pro. We don't move live billing between platforms, so paying members re-subscribe on the new site. We plan the cutover with you so as few memberships lapse as possible.
What does the migration cost?+
Starter is $99 for a Squarespace site of up to 50 pages with no store, delivered in 5 business days. Professional is $299 for Squarespace Commerce and sites of up to 500 pages, delivered in 7 business days. Sites with Member Areas, bookings or heavy custom code get a custom quote after the free audit. Every plan includes a warranty: 30 days on Starter, 90 days on Professional and 1 year on Enterprise. Hosting and premium plugin licences (MemberPress and similar) are separate.
