How the migration runs, step by step

Squarespace audit (24 hours)
We inspect your Squarespace site: version (7.0 or 7.1), page count, blog post count, store SKUs, Member Area complexity, and custom code blocks. Squarespace has an XML export, but it's incomplete (only blog + pages, no products, no member data) — we plan the supplementary extraction during the audit.

WordPress + theme setup (Day 1)
WordPress installed on your chosen host. Theme picked and styled to match your Squarespace design. Plugins installed: Yoast or RankMath SEO, form plugin, page builder, and any feature-specific plugins (WooCommerce, MemberPress).

Squarespace XML export + import (Day 1-2)
Squarespace export XML downloaded and imported into WordPress via the WordPress Importer plugin. Blog posts, pages, and image references migrate in this step. Content cleanup pass: fix any malformed HTML, restore broken image links, validate categories and tags.

Layout rebuild (Day 2-4)
Squarespace page layouts rebuilt as WordPress pages using your chosen builder (Elementor, Spectra, Gutenberg block patterns). Mobile layouts checked separately. Custom CSS that still applies is ported to the WordPress theme; CSS that depended on Squarespace's grid is reworked.

Commerce / Members migration (Day 4-5, if applicable)
Squarespace Commerce products exported and imported into WooCommerce. Customer accounts and order history extracted via Squarespace API. Member Areas content migrated to MemberPress or Restrict Content Pro with subscription tier mapping.

301 redirect map + SEO (Day 5-6)
Every Squarespace URL pattern (/blog/post-slug, /shop/product, /sitepage) mapped to its WordPress equivalent. Squarespace SEO descriptions transferred to Yoast/RankMath. Sitemap regenerated and ready for Search Console.

Domain cutover (Day 7)
Domain transferred out of Squarespace or pointed to WordPress host via DNS. If domain was registered through Squarespace, we coordinate the transfer (Squarespace allows transfer-out after a verification window). Search Console resubmitted; conversion tracking validated.

Why migrate from Squarespace to WordPress?+
Three common reasons: (1) Squarespace monthly fees ($16-49/mo) plus add-ons add up vs ~$10-30/mo for WordPress hosting; (2) Squarespace's design flexibility is great until you hit a limit, then there's no workaround — WordPress + Elementor or Gutenberg lets you build anything; (3) Squarespace's SEO controls are coarse compared to Yoast/RankMath — better schema, better internal linking, better content marketing tooling on WordPress.
Will my Squarespace design transfer to WordPress?+
We rebuild your Squarespace layouts in WordPress using your chosen page builder. The desktop design is matched closely. Mobile is checked and tuned separately. If you'd prefer to upgrade the design as part of the migration, that's part of our Website Redesign service.
Does Squarespace have a clean export?+
Partial. Squarespace's XML export covers blog posts and standard pages. It does NOT include: Commerce products, customer accounts, Member Areas data, Acuity appointments, or some custom block types. For everything outside the XML, we use Squarespace's API or scraping (where permitted) to extract the data. We plan the full extraction approach during the audit.
Will my Squarespace SEO transfer?+
Yes. Page titles, meta descriptions, slug structure, and OG settings transfer. Squarespace SEO descriptions become Yoast or RankMath meta descriptions. We build a complete 301 redirect map for every URL pattern change. Most sites see 1-3 position variance in the first month with full recovery by week 4.
Can I keep my Squarespace domain?+
Yes. If your domain is registered through Squarespace, you initiate a transfer-out from your domain settings. Squarespace processes the transfer after a verification window (typically 5-7 days). Alternatively, you can keep the domain at Squarespace and just point its DNS at your WordPress host — faster but ties you to Squarespace as the registrar.
What about Squarespace Commerce products?+
Squarespace Commerce products are exported via Squarespace's CSV export (products, variants, prices, inventory). Customer accounts and order history require Squarespace API extraction. Both are included in our Squarespace Commerce tier ($3,997).
Will my Member Areas data come across?+
Member content and tier definitions transfer to a WordPress membership plugin: MemberPress, Restrict Content Pro, or Paid Memberships Pro. Subscriptions need to be migrated with customer-initiated payment re-authorization (security/compliance requirement). We coordinate the cutover to minimize lapsed subscriptions.

Squarespace Standard (up to 25 pages, no commerce): $1,997 fixed. Squarespace Commerce (up to 500 products): $3,997 fixed. Complex multi-feature sites: custom-quoted after the free audit. Hosting and any premium plugin licenses (MemberPress, etc.) are separate.
